Selena Zaitseva
ART ADVISOR, ART HISTORIAN
Selena Zaitseva is a seasoned art advisor, historian, and specialist with over seven years of extensive experience in the art world. Her career has been shaped by close collaborations with leading specialists and art entities across the globe.

While she has developed significant expertise in the Middle Eastern market, her true passion lies in the East Asian region—a vibrant and dynamic market rich with diverse perspectives. Selena's deep understanding of the nuances and intricacies that define these cultural landscapes allows her to offer a comprehensive range of services, including art advisory, collection management, research, and curation.
Selena began her career as a personal assistant to a prominent art advisor, swiftly developing a keen eye for detail and a profound understanding of client relations, collection management, and the curation of art events. She further honed her expertise during her tenure as an Art Manager at a Dubai-based international art advisory agency, where she played a pivotal role in managing both private and corporate art collections, and in curating a range of bespoke art events. In addition to her responsibilities in collection management, Selena organised art tours as part of her work, contributing to high-end exhibitions, including NFT showcases, which deepened her understanding of the emerging NFT and digital art markets. Her work in the region also involved partnering with galleries and engaging actively with the vibrant art market and events landscape, further solidifying her extensive network of specialists worldwide.

Her experience extends to esteemed cultural institutions, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA; South Korea), where she represented the museum on an international scale as an ambassador becoming the MMCA Foreign Supporter. While doing her internship at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Russia) Selena has also assisted in organising exhibitions and art tours at the museum. Throughout her student year she also benefited from the Summer Study Abroad programme and deepened her art history knowledge at Vesuvian Institute (Italy) exploring South Italian art and architecture, including the sites of Pompeii and Stabiae.

Her academic background is equally notable. She holds both a BA and MA (Honours) in Art History, Theory, and Criticism from Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia), with a specialization in East Asian art—encompassing Japan, Korea, and China. In addition, Selena is well-versed in Modern and Contemporary art from both Western and Eastern traditions and holds a BA in Korean Studies and International Business from Kyung Hee University (South Korea).

Her BA thesis in Art History focused on the Japanese printmaker Yoshida Hiroshi and the ‘shinhanga’ print movement, while her MA explored Korean Buddhist sculpture from the 6th and 7th centuries, looking specifically into the image of bodhisattva Mireuk from the National Museum of Korea (South Korea). This educational foundation has provided her with a profound basis in East Asian studies, ensuring her expertise in the region. Selena has also conducted significant research on the Korean art market, examining its development and the challenges it faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, Selena’s connoisseurship encompasses not only ancient East Asian art but also modern and contemporary periods, along with a deep understanding of local art markets.

Fluent in English, French, Russian, Korean, and Japanese, with conversational skills in Italian and Chinese, Selena leverages her linguistic abilities to gain deeper insights into the cultural contexts that inform artistic practices.

Driven by a deep passion for art and its power to bridge cultural divides, Selena Zaitseva is committed to fostering connections across the global art landscape. She offers personalised advice and support to collectors at all stages, from novices to discerning connoisseurs, helping them navigate the complexities of the art world with confidence and ease.
